Trust in Christ

Chimes from Bygone Years

Today's Devotional

Christ has promised that if you will but love and trust Him, and commit all confidingly into His Hand, He will make all things work together for your good. Dismiss, then, all undue anxiety as to the future. “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:7). If the Father has put all His great things into Christ’s Hand, may not you put all your little things into that Hand also? —Dr. Hanna.

Keep close to Jesus; go to Him for all you need; lean upon Him. There is a fulness in Christ laid up for you that the highest angel in Heaven cannot fathom. Tell Him all that is in your heart, lay your case before Him as if He did not already know it: this is the sweet simplicity of faith that Jesus loves. —Mrs. Winslow.

About the author and the source

Charlotte Bickersteth Wheeler taught English in the 1870s and wrote sentimental novels and evangelistic biographies of relatives who had died. Among her books was Chimes from Bygone Years, a collection of quotes arranged by days of the year and organized by topic. Today she selected quotes from Mary Winslow and William Hanna. Winslow (1774–1854) had Scots roots but migrated to the United States where she was ever ready with spiritual counsel. Dr. Hanna (1808–1882) was the author of Life of Christ and The Life of Rev. Dr. Chalmers.
