Leave Vengeance to God; Seek Peace Instead

A page from Daily Communion

Today's Devotional

Morning:—

Don’t say, “I will avenge this evil!” — Proverbs 20:22 (HOLMAN).

Forgive thy foes; nor that alone,—
Their evil deeds with good repay;
Fill those with joy who leave thee none,
And kiss the hand uprais’d to slay.

Noon:—

Wait on the LORD, and he will rescue you — Proverbs 20:22 (HOLMAN).

How fearless should our trust
In thy compassion be,
When from our brother of the dust
We dare appeal to thee!

Evening:—

Do I end this day at peace with all around me?— (see Ephesians 4:26).

Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son,
The ill that I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.
